To have allowed the 3rd-fewest xG from the 9th most deep completions requires Stars at center back and Brazilian Vitor Hugo might be one of those. At the End of the Day, this tackling and intercepting (95th percentile defensive actions) powerful center backs is the Master of the House. A player like this who can win duels and can move the ball forward as well as he does will lead to a manager staying in a job One Day More. Don’t Look Down on this man, he might be keeping manager Stefano Piolo from going home to Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.
The only problem is when he’s not singing, he’s interesting, but goes on and on about a priest. I just can’t get past that part.
Jordan Veretout, 25, midfielder
He provides serious steel in the midfield, but also pops up as their key passing combo and the team leader in xG+xA per 90 at .43. I don’t buy that production level over a full season, his passing numbers are pretty meh and his history doesn’t indicate he’s a great creator. He’s passable with the ball and a defensive whirlwind, it’s probably worth throwing him on a list somewhere and keeping an eye on him to see if the offensive production continues.
